A dental bridge is a fixed restoration that replaces one or more missing teeth by anchoring artificial teeth to the natural teeth (or implants) on either side of the gap. It restores chewing and speech, keeps neighbouring teeth from shifting, and fills out your smile with a natural look.

The most common questions about this treatment
An implant replaces the tooth root without touching neighbouring teeth and helps preserve bone, but takes longer to complete. A bridge is faster and fixed but requires preparing the adjacent teeth. Your dentist recommends the best option for your case.
With good oral hygiene and regular check-ups, a quality bridge can last many years. Keeping the supporting teeth and gums healthy, and cleaning carefully under the bridge, helps it last longer.
The supporting teeth are prepared under local anaesthesia, so you should not feel pain. Mild sensitivity afterwards is common and settles within a few days.
Because the replacement tooth sits over the gum, you clean beneath it with floss threaders, interdental brushes or a water flosser, in addition to normal brushing. Your dentist will show you the technique.
A bridge usually takes two visits, so most international patients stay about 4–7 days while it is crafted and fitted, with a temporary in between.

A dental bridge spans a gap left by missing teeth. The supporting teeth on each side are prepared and crowned, and these crowns hold a replacement tooth (pontic) between them. Bridges can also be supported by implants. Modern bridges are usually porcelain-fused or all-ceramic (zirconia) for a natural appearance.
A dental bridge is usually completed in two visits:
Preparation — the supporting teeth are shaped under local anaesthesia and a scan or impression is taken.
Temporary bridge — a temporary protects the area while the bridge is crafted.
Crafting — the custom bridge is made and shade-matched to your teeth.
Fitting — the final bridge is checked for fit and bite, then cemented into place.
You may be a suitable candidate if you:
Have one or more missing teeth with healthy teeth either side
Want a fixed (non-removable) alternative to a denture
Are not having an implant, or prefer a quicker fixed option
Have healthy gums and good oral hygiene
Have realistic expectations about caring for the supporting teeth

Temporary bridge in place; chew gently and keep the area clean
Mild sensitivity as you adjust
Eat normally; clean under the bridge as instructed
Good hygiene and check-ups keep the bridge and supports healthy
Cleaning under and around the bridge is important; with good hygiene and check-ups a bridge can last many years.
Bridges are a reliable way to replace teeth, but the supporting teeth must be prepared (reshaped), which is irreversible. Possible issues include sensitivity, decay or gum problems at the supporting teeth if hygiene is poor, and eventual wear of the bridge. Unlike an implant, a tooth-supported bridge does not stop bone loss under the gap. Your dentist will advise whether a bridge or implant suits you best.
