Gynecomastia surgery combines liposuction to remove excess fat with direct excision of glandular breast tissue through a small incision, usually at the edge of the areola. Gynecomastia surgery is a common, well-established procedure, but as with any surgery there are risks: swelling, bruising, temporary numbness, contour irregularities or asymmetry, small scars, fluid collection (seroma), and the small risks of anaesthesia. If significant skin needs removing, scars are larger. Wearing the compression vest and following aftercare improve the contour and recovery.

Removed glandular tissue does not grow back, so results are usually permanent. However, significant weight gain, anabolic steroids or certain medications can cause new fullness, so a stable, drug-free lifestyle protects the result.
If the fullness is purely fat, weight loss may help and liposuction alone can refine it. True gynecomastia includes firm glandular tissue that does not respond to diet or exercise and needs surgical excision to remove.
Scars are small and placed discreetly, often at the edge of the areola where they blend in. If excess skin must be removed in larger cases, scars are longer but still planned to be as hidden as possible.
Most men return to desk work within about a week. Light activity resumes gradually, while chest and heavy upper-body exercise are usually avoided for around 4–6 weeks while wearing the compression vest.
